England head coach Eddie Jones believes captain Dylan Hartley has 'let his country down' with his latest red card.
Hartley was handed a six-week suspension for the red card he picked up during Northampton's Champions Cup loss to Leinster on December 9.
The Northampton hooker had only been on the pitch for six minutes when he was shown a red card for striking Sean O'Brien with a swinging right arm from behind and the six week suspension means the 30-year-old has now accumulated 60 weeks in suspensions.
Jones believes Hartley has let his country down with his actions and has urged him to learn from his mistakes.
"This is not the last chance for him but he understands he can't behave in the way he did," Jones to the Telegraph.
"Dylan will be more disappointed than anyone about what has happened. He has got to cop the penalty because the World Rugby directive on protecting the head is 100% right.
"He has let down himself, he has let down his club and he has let down his country."
Despite leading England to an unbeaten run of 13 Tests, there have been calls for Hartley to be stripped of the captaincy and Jones has refused to offer him any guarantees ahead of the RBS Six Nations.
"He is eligible for selection for the Six Nations and it comes down to the case for every selection - we pick the best 23 and if he is in the best 23, then he has a chance to be captain," Jones explained.
