Jorge Lorenzo takes pole at MotoGP British Grand Prix

Jorge Lorenzo grabbed his second pole of the MotoGP season in a rain-affected, delayed qualification session at the British Grand Prix.

The Ducati rider led home his team-mate Andrea Dovizioso for a one-two for the team.

Heavy rain at the end of FP4 caused several incidents including one which saw Tito Rabat sustain a triple fracture to his right leg after he was struck by the bike of Franco Morbidelli, delaying the start of qualifying as they waited for a medical helicopter to take Rabat away.

When the shootout started, Lorenzo briefly moved to the stop of the standings with a 2m12.001s effort before being surpassed by LCR Honda rider Cal Crutchlow and then Johann Zarco's Tech 3 Yamaha.

Dovizioso then took over the top spot with a 2m10.314s before Lorenzo hit back, producing a superb lap time of 2m10.155s to beat his Ducati teammate by 0.159s.

Crutchlow and Zarco claimed third and fourth place respectively while Marc Marquez came home fifth fastest.

Danilo Petrucci's Pramac Ducati and Andrea Iannone's Suzuki will start Sunday's race from sixth and seventh position with KTM's Bradley Smith securing eighth spot.

Jack Miller was ninth fastest with Suzuki's Alex Rins and factory Yamaha duo Maverick Vinales and Valentino Rossi completing the Q2 order.
