Juventus complete De Ligt signing

Italian giants Juventus have signed highly-rated Dutch centre-back Matthijs De Ligt from Ajax for an initial fee of €75m.

Italian giants Juventus have signed highly-rated Dutch centre-back Matthijs De Ligt from Ajax for an initial fee of €75m.

The 19-year-old was a star performer in the Dutch club’s run to the Champions League semi-finals last season and had been linked with a number of big clubs, including Manchester United and Barcelona.

He has signed a five-year deal with the Turin side who are looking to win the Serie A title for the ninth year in succession this season under new head coach Maurizio Sarri who guided Chelsea to Europa League glory last season.

The Dutch international had been expected to join former Ajax team-mate Frenkie De Jong at Barcelona, but instead has opted to move to the Bianconeri.

Juventus have already completed the signings of Cristian Romero, Luca Pellegrini, Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot and Merih Demiral this summer, while veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has also returned after a season with Paris St Germain.
