Jurgen Klopp is planning to rotate his squad for Sunday's FA Cup third round tie against Plymouth and has hinted that Loris Karius could start in goal.
Karius replaced Simon Mignolet as the Reds number one following his return from injury in September only for the £4.7m summer signing from Mainz to be dropped on the back of a poor run of form.
He has not featured since being dropped for last month's trip to Middlesbrough but Klopp believes losing his place in the first team will stand to him.
“He Karius trained outstanding. It’s good to see,” Klopp told his pre-match press conference.
"We cannot ignore the pressure. We have to cope and we have to deal with it. That’s why we make the change.
"I’m sure Loris will benefit from this. Simon has done an outstanding job. Loris forces him to train at a high level.”
Following the busy festive schedule, Klopp his planning to make changes to his squad for the visit of Plymouth.
One player who could feature is Joe Gomez, who has not played since suffering a cruciate ligament injury in October 2015.
"I would think so, pretty sure we will see a few fresh legs on the pitch," Klopp said when asked if he would rotate his squad.
"Daniel Sturridge has not trained until now, he'll probably (train) today. Philippe Coutinho is on a very good way. Joel Matip same, James Milner better but we will not take the risk with him (Milner) at the weekend.
"It will be maybe not the biggest surprise to see Joe Gomez in the line-up on Sunday.
"It will be nice for all of us because he is a wonderful boy and we are really happy for him."
