Keane and Pilkington out of Swiss game

Injuries will prevent them from playing

Robbie Keane and Anthony Pilkington will play no part in the Republic of Ireland's friendly against Switzerland.

Both players have been unable to train this week because of injuries and manager Martin O'Neill has confirmed they will not be risked against Switzerland on Friday night.

“Robbie’s still sore. He got a bit of a knock in his game at the weekend and he’s taking a little bit longer to get over it than he expected. He probably won’t be available for tomorrow evening but we’ll look at it again over the weekend," O'Neill told his pre-match press conference.

Pilkington has been ruled out because of a knee issue but he could return for the game against Slovakia.

O'Neill will use the friendlies to try out a number of fringe players, although he has warned they could face a battle to make his squad for Euro 2016.

"One or two will be involved. One will start, maybe more, then we’ll look to use others over the course of the game," O'Neill stated.

"Let’s be fair, though, the players who are coming in late have a bit to do. Everything would have to go pretty well for them individually bit it’s not impossible, it’s happened before. The door is open. "
