Keane ratified as Kerry manager

Peter Keane is to take charge of the Kerry senior footballers, succeeding Eamonn Fitzmaurice.

Keane guided the Kerry minors to the All-Ireland title in each of the last three years but he has never managed an inter-county team at senior level.

He has been appointed on a three-year term and will be joined by Donie Buckley, Maurice Fitzgerald, Tommy Griffin and James Foley, who worked alongside Keane with the Kerry minors.

Foley, Fitzgerald and Griffin have been named as selectors, while Buckley has been appointed as coach following his seven seasons with the Mayo team.

Meanwhile, Brian Cody has been confirmed as the manager of the Kilkenny senior hurlers for a 21st season.

Cody first took charges of the Cats ahead of the 1999 season and in his 20 years at the helm he has guided the county to 11 All-Ireland titles.

He will be joined by the same backroom team of Derek Lyng, James McGarry and Michael Dempsey.
