Kelly targets Championship return

Tony Kelly hopes to return to the Clare senior hurling panel in time for the Munster SHC showdown with Waterford.

Kelly was advised to take three months off after suffering ankle ligament damage in training in January, ruling him out for the majority of the Allianz Hurling League campaign.

He could return if Clare reach the final, but the 2013 Player of the Year has resigned himself to the fact that he is unlikely to be back playing until the meeting with Waterford.

"I avoided surgery, thank God. The doctor said ‘you can be back in seven or eight weeks but by giving it the full length of time, you should have no problem going forward’," Kelly is quoted as saying in the Irish Examiner.

"Hopefully with the time I’m giving it, I’ll have no trouble with it again after this. At this stage, I’m definitely out of the next two league games and probably a quarter-final and a semi-final if we make it."
