Leicester’s Andy King hopes that his side’s fourth round victory over Derby County in the FA Cup will serve as a springboard for the team to turn around their fortunes in the Premier League.
The Foxes are currently languishing 16th in the Premier League table, but goals from King, Wilfred Ndidi and Demarai Gray saw them past Derby after extra time at the King Power Stadium in a performance that will give boss Claudio Ranieir plenty of hope that his side can ignite and escape the Premier League relegation battle.
“It was important to get a win tonight and get us kickstarted in the league. We’ve got 14 massive games in the league,” said King.
“But we’ve gone through a couple of rounds in the cup now, so why can’t we make another journey out of that this season?”
Gray scored a wonder goal in extra time to secure the win over the Rams with his second goal of the season and admitted the win was much needed for confidence within the squad.
“It’s nice to get on the score sheet and take a bit of pressure off us because we’ve had a tough few weeks,” said Gray.
Next up for Leicester is a game against fellow Premier League strugglers Swansea City in the league this Sunday, a game all at the club know could prove vital in their survival bid.
