Klopp: No timeframe on Karius return

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says "there is no timeframe" on goalkeeper Loris Karius' return to the first team.

The German, a £4.7m summer signing from Mainz, was dropped for the 3-0 Premier League win over Middlesbrough on Wednesday following an unconvincing performance against West Ham at the weekend.

Karius' replacement Simon Mignolet made two fine saves to deny Ben Gibson and Viktor Fischer at the Riverside and secure the 50th clean sheet of his Anfield career.

The victory, Liverpool's tenth of the season, sees Klopp's side move above Arsenal into second place in the Premier League table.

"Liverpool FC is a long-term project, [but] we know we have to be successful as soon as possible too," Klopp said.

"I know how strong Loris Karius is. Unfortunately, he couldn’t show how strong in the last few games.

"But I saw no reason to push him through this situation [as] I’m really happy with our goalkeeper situation.

"That’s why we don’t have to rush Loris, who is a very big, big goalkeeping talent.

"He will be good at the end, but there’s no timeframe for him to come back."

Two-goal Lallana was pleased at Liverpool's return to winning ways, following the 2-2 draw with West Ham and the 4-3 defeat at Bournemouth the previous week.

"It was a very good night's work," the England midfielder said.

"It was a difficult start, we knew this was going to be a tough place to come.

"I thought we came out second half brilliantly and got goals at good times. We stuck at it and we're thoroughly pleased with the result in the end.

"We've dropped a couple of points, especially in the Bournemouth game when we were 3-1 up, so it was even more important tonight when two, three up to stay concentrated and the clean sheet's good for the team."
