Jurgen Klopp is far from relaxed about the thigh injury that will rule Adam Lallana out for four weeks.
Lallana picked up the injury during the first half of England's World Cup qualifier win over Lithuania, but he played the entire 90 minutes because he thought he had only suffered a dead leg.
It was only on his return to Liverpool that the full extent of the injury was discovered, with the midfielder expected to be sidelined for at least four weeks.
Klopp does not blame Gareth Southgate for Lallana's injury but he believes clubs and national managers must work together to protect players.
"It is absolutely normal to have contact with the manager of the national team," Klopp told reporters when asked about Lallana's injury.
"We both share players. I was not happy - I could not be less relaxed about this but it is not about blaming Gareth Southgate
"I was not happy he played but it is not my decision and I have to respect other manager's decisions.
"It doesn't help in these situations but we are not the only team or country who suffered. I think we could handle these situations better if we work together better."
Liverpool will be without a number of players for Saturday's Merseyside derby with Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson both missing through injury.
Sturridge has returned to training but Klopp has confirmed he will not be ready for the visit of Everton to Anfield.
"No chance. He was on pitch with rehab staff but no chance of playing," the manager said.
Henderson, meanwhile, has suffered a 'little setback' and Klopp does not know when he will be available.
"He's not in team training until now. I can't say how long," he told reporters.
"We will bring all what we have. All the other players had good results. Apart from Adam, nobody had big issues."
