Klopp waits on Henderson injury

England midfielder has heel problem

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is waiting to find out the full extent of the heel injury that forced Jordan Henderson out of Saturday's win over Manchester City.

The Reds' captain came off injured in the 64th minute of his side's 1-0 victory over Pep Guardiola's side at Anfield, but Klopp confirmed Henderson was feeling pain in the other heel to the one that troubled him last season.

The England midfielder was diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in his left heel in April 2015, a chronic and painful condition that is incurable but can be managed through rest.

However, the condition isn't necessarily confined to one foot - Henderson suffered badly from stabbing pains in his left foot in his recovery period after he broke a metatarsal on his right foot in September 2015.

Former Liverpool player Jamie Carragher and ex-Everton midfielder Tim Cahill also suffered from the condition during their careers.

"In this moment it's a little bit of pain in the heel. A little bit," Klopp said

"With Hendo limping, then it's probably a little bit more pain. We have to see. I don't know exactly in this moment."

Henderson, 26, has featured in all 19 of Liverpool's Premier League games this season but may miss Liverpool's visit to Sunderland on Monday with the injury.

Sunderland could be without defender Lamine Kone and forward Victor Anichebe for Monday's game, after the pair limped out of Saturday's 4-1 defeat to Burnley at Turf Moor.

"I don't know exactly what the injuries to Lamine and Victor are," manager David Moyes said.

"Lamine got a blow and Victor's looked like a hamstring so that would rule him out if that's the case."

Defender Jason Denayer also missed the defeat against Burnley due to a hamstring injury, although scans confirmed that there is no underlying problem.

"Jason felt his hamstring in training on Friday and we had it scanned but there was nothing on it, so we have to hope it's not long term," he continued.

"There was nothing on the scan but he felt he wasn't able to play.

"We had a couple of players who weren't ready to play against Burnley -Steven Pienaar and Jack Rodwell - but we wanted to include them and get them ready for some of the games coming up.

"Let's hope they can get themselves in a good condition and get ready to play some minutes."
