Knee injury set to rule out City's Gundogan

Ilkay Gundogan looks set for a spell on the sidelines for Man City after the midfielder suffered a knee injury in his side’s 2-0 win over Watford in the Premier League.

Gundogan attempted to play on following a clash with Nordin Amrabat, but was forced to leave the field of play, being replaced by Fernando just before the interval.

“I’m so sad for Gundogan as it looks like we’ll be without him for a long time - we will know more tomorrow, it doesn’t look good,” said Man City boss Pep Guardiola following the clash.

Guardiola also praised the resilience of his side as they stopped a two-game losing run in the league with the deserved victory, saying: "We won, we had a good performance. All the team worked hard and it is good to get a clean sheet and all our defenders did well against tough, tough strikers.

"The game is always open here in England, Watford have impressed me. They have amazing strikers, strong and physical, but my players played with the spirit."

City keeper Claudio Bravo has been widely criticised since his arrival in the Premier League this season, but his clean sheet tonight will not go unnoticed and Guardiola singled him out for praise.

"It is not easy to come to a new club and a new country," commented Guardiola. "I know what people say about him but he has good experience. When moments arrive he has to be brave. Today he was excellent."

Goalscorer and City veteran Pablo Zabaleta was also mentioned by the City boss post-match, not only for his contribution on the field, but also his presence off it.

"We need his spirit, he is part of this history and played well with and without the ball,” said Guardiola. “On the pitch and in the dressing room he is important for us."
