Vincent Kompany will miss Manchester City's Champions League match with Borussia Monchengladbach after he was ruled out for several weeks with a knee injury.
The Belgium international was substituted during the 2-1 Premier League win over Crystal Palace on Saturday with concussion, which was first thought was his injury complaint. However, Man City revealed at this afternoon's Champions League press conference that Kompany had suffered knee ligament damage.
City manager Pep Guardiola said that Kompany is underoing treatment at a Spanish hospital and that he is in "the best hands."
The knee problem is Kompany's 35th injury since he joined City in 2008; this is his fourth injury this season, which has restricted him to starting just two games since the start of the season.
"We have to try to help him week after week to see if he can play more often," added Guardiola, whose side travel to Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League on Wednesday.
"He could be out for weeks. He's sad and I'm sad. It's a long time he doesn't play."
Midfielder Fabian Delph could be available for the Group C clash at Borussia-Park for the first time since August.
John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan and Gael Clichy, who were rested for the match at Selhurst Park, all took part in City's final training session in Manchester before flying out to Germany.
"Fabian Delph returned to training ahead of City's trip to Monchengladbach," the club said in a statement.
"Delph hasn't featured for the first team since the end of August when he was an unused sub against West Ham. He required surgery on a troublesome groin problem and his return will give Pep Guardiola another midfield option."
A draw will be enough for City to progress to the knock-out stages, barring the unlikely scenario of Celtic winning their final two matches, at home to Barcelona and against City at the Etihad Stadium on matchday six, but Germany midfielder Gundogan says there will be no playing for a point against Andre Schubert's side.
"He will definitely want to win! It's impossible to go somewhere with the idea of drawing, not to lose. That can't be the main idea," he said.
“We always have to go into games convinced we will win against every opponent.”
