Koscielny refuses to travel on pre-season tour

Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel with Arsenal on their pre-season tour to the United States, the club have announced.

The captain had been due to travel with the squad to the US on Thursday but he has remained behind amid reports that he is keen on a move away from the Emirates.

It has been claimed that the 33-year-old has been asked to be released from the final year of his contract in the hope of forcing a move to Ligue 1.

"Laurent Koscielny has refused to travel to the US for our pre-season tour," a statement from the club read.

"We are very disappointed by Laurent's actions, which are against our clear instructions.

"We hope to resolve this matter and will not be providing any further comment at this time."

Koscielny, who has been at Arsenal since 2010, made 29 appearances in all competitions for the Gunners last season.

Unai Emery’s side begin their four-game tour of the US against Colorado Rapids on 16 July, which is live on eir sport 2 [kick-off 2am]. Subscribe here
