Krisztián Adorján will extend his stay at Dundalk, Stephen Kenny believes, as his temporary deal nears an end at Oriel Park.
While initially used sparingly, the Hungarian – who spent time at Liverpool under Brendan Rodgers – has been immensely influential in recent games for the Lilywhites.
His role has increased after Stephen O'Donnell sustained a season-ending injury, and he is now a key part of the Dundalk midfield trio, alongside Robbie Benson and Chris Shields.
The attacking midfielder Adorjan joined Dundalk on loan from Serie B side Novara Calcio, who were since relegated.
Speaking to eir sport, Kenny said: "I expect he will stay. He is here until the end of July, and we need to sort it out. We'd like him to stay."
It took the Hungarian some time to adapt to the Irish game, Kenny said:
"There's an daptation from playing Serie B, where teams drop off and there are two different tempos depending on who has the ball. The game here earlier in the winter time was frenetic and he had to adapt to a pressing game we have when we are not on.
"He has adapted; it took him time to adapt. However, he is an exceptional player doing quite well at the moment.
In our European games, he would certainly be a real addition for sure. He can play with anyone, different positions as well. He is settling in well and it was a great goal he scored last week against Limerick."
