Tipperary hurling captain Seamus Callanan says the Allianz Leagues is very important to the Premier squad this season.
The 2020 campaign kicks-off on Saturday evening as Tipp take on old rivals Limerick at Semple Stadium (LIVE on eir sport 1 from 5pm) in a game that pitches the current All-Ireland champions against the current league champions.
It’s a tough start for both teams but Callanan, the only survivor from Tipp’s record 19th league title-winning panel back in 2008, is up for the challenge as the Premier squad attempt to add the league title to their championship crown.
“Obviously it’s a very long time since we picked up a league medal. There’ll be different aspects to the Allianz league now as well,” the reigning Hurler of the Year said in the Irish Daily Mirror.
“You’ll be obviously trying to blood new players and lads trying to get their match fitness up. But it would be great to win a bit of silverware at the end of it too.
“It would get you off to a good start to the year, build momentum going into the summer.
“The Allianz League will be very important in our preparations.”
****eir sport will be showing 15 LIVE Allianz Leagues matches this season starting with Tipperary v Limerick this Saturday from 5pm on eir sport 1.
