Leinster beat woeful Northampton; Last minute win for Connacht

Connacht kept their European dreams alive with an injury-time try from Naulia Dawai and a conversion from the cool-headed Jack Carty helped them overcome a tough Wasps 20-18 at the Sportsground.

Dawai completed a dream debut when he went over just as It looked the Pro12 champions were doomed for defeat, in what was a thrilling tie from start to finish.

The English side opened the lead when scrum-half Joe Simpson crossed the line, before Danie Poolman hit back for the hosts after a crafty kick from Carty found the South African.

Josh Bassett touched down for Wasps after controlling much of the second-half, and despite the defeat, Dai Young will be happy with his side’s performance which sees them remain top, on point difference.

Pat Lam’s side displayed great character to pull off a famous victory and will look to replicate the result when they host Zebre in round five in January.

Leinster made light work of English side Northampton with a record win of 60-13 to remain on course for a spot in the knock-out stages of the Champions Cup.

A weakened Northampton took a narrow lead when Ken Pisi broke away to give the Jimmies Saints a lead of 13-5 before Adam Byrne, Luke McGrath and Sean O’Brien went over to hand Leo Cullen’s side a half-time lead of 29-13.

The Blues had a firm grip on the tie and pushed on with tries from Tadhg Furlong, Sean Cronin, Isa Nacewa and Rory O'Loughlin added to the woes of the travelling fans.

Leinster at times, walked through a second-string Northampton defence, but will expect tougher tests when they host Montpellier at the RDS in January.
