Leinster ease past sloppy Munster

Leinster emerged victorious beating old rivals Munster 25-14 in the Pro12 at the Aviva stadium.

Leinster opened the scoring when the ever-present Johnny Sexton kicked over two early penalties, before Munster’s Peter O'Mahony crossed over to hand the Red Army a slender lead of 7-6.

It looked like Leo Cullen’s side were going to register their first try of the game when Isa Nacewa was played in, only for Simon Zebo to deny the New-Zealander with a well-timed, last-ditch tackle.

Leinster and Nacewa managed to get their try in the 35th minute when the full-back broke through following a strong scrum and two short-passes.

Leinster punished another Munster error in the 53rd minute after great work from Garry Ringrose created space for Nacewa to slide home for his second score, Sexton kicking over to make it 18-7.

Munster were struggling to get out of their own half, and the Leinster pressure paid off in the 68th minute when a quality kick from Robbie Henshaw put Tyler Bleyendaal under pressure causing the fly-half to fumble, leaving Jamison Gibson-Park to get the slightest of touches for a try.

Nacewa put away the conversion to leave the score at 25-7.

Rassie Erasmus' side highlighted Leinster’s defensive frailties in the 74th minute when in a rare second-half attack they ran a try over after Jaco Taute found space out wide, before an Ian Keatley conversion, but it was a case of too little, too late for the former European champions.

Munster will look to bounce back against Ulster in the Pro12 on the 28th while Leinster will host connacht a day later.

Conor McGregor will fight Eddie Alvarez for the lightweight belt at UFC 205 in New York on November 12 live on the eir Sport pack. The eir Sport pack is free to all eir broadband customers. To learn more about setting sport free visit www.eir.ie/sport .
