Liverpool agree Wijnaldum fee

Georginio Wijnaldum has completed his move to Liverpool from Newcastle.

The two clubs are reported to have agreed a £25million fee for the 25-year-old on Thursday before he underwent a medical at Liverpool's Melwood training ground.

Wijnaldum joined Newcastle in a £14.5million deal from Dutch side PSV in 2015 and went on to play in all 38 of the Magpies 38 Premier League games last season. He was the club's leading scorer with 11 goals.

“I’m really excited because Liverpool is a big club with a great history and it’s always a dream to play for as big a club as Liverpool," he told the club's website.

Wijnaldum, who had four years remaining on his contract with the Championship club, is excited at the prospect of working with manager Jurgen Klopp.

"[He seems] a great man - from the outside - because I don’t know how he works yet and I have to work with him.

“[But] I always love to watch him, his passion as a trainer, I like how he enjoys the game. He gives something back to the group [with his passion] so I look forward to working with him.”

He will now jet out to join the club's pre-season tour of the United States.
