Liverpool have confirmed that England defender Nathaniel Clyne underwent "minor' back surgery on Monday.
Clyne has not featured for Liverpool since suffering a back injury during a pre-season friendly against Tranmere Rovers on 12 July.
Liverpool's doctors were hopeful the 26-year-old would return to first-team action in the New Year, but manager Jurgen Klopp said on 3 November that the England international "had a little setback" in his recovery.
And the Reds have now confirmed that Clyne underwent surgery on the injury in London, and that there "were no complications with the operation".
"The 26-year-old is in good condition due to the extensive treatment he has already undergone in the first part of this campaign," a Liverpool statement read.
"This means Clyne is on course to return to action in the new year and be available for selection once more for Liverpool, though no specific time frame has been placed on his return."
