Liverpool sweat on Coutinho injury
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp says Phillipe Coutinho will go for a scan in the next couple of days with the ankle injury he suffered in the 2-0 win over Sunderland.
The Brazilian playmaker was carried off on a stretcher at Anfield after suffering a right ankle injury while competing for a 50-50 ball with Black Cats' midfielder Didier Ndong.
Klopp confirmed that Coutinho and Roberto Firminho both suffered injuries in the win over David Moyes' Premier League strugglers, although Liverpool's medical staff are confident that Coutinho has not suffered a fracture.
"It [Philippe Coutinho's injury] is an ankle injury but we can't say anymore until we see a scan. Firmino got a knock on the calf as well. That should not be that serious," Klopp told the BBC after the match.
Klopp admits that Liverpool struggled to break down the Sunderland defence, but was delighted by the composure and patience his players showed to eventually secure their ninth Premier League win of the season..
"There is a lot to analyse. This was the most defensive team I ever saw in my life," he continued.
"Sunderland always play a defensive style and that is OK. We forced them to be that. It is the most difficult thing in world football to come through but we stayed concentrated, worked for the moment and found a way."
