Liverpool wait on Lovren, Can and Matip

Dejan Lovren, Joel Matip and Emre Can are all major injury doubts for Liverpool's Premier League game at Leicester on Saturday.

Cameroon international defender Matip, 26, and Germany midfielder Can, 23, picked up knocks in the Reds' 1-1 draw with Burnley on Saturday, while Croatia defender Lovren, 28, has a back problem that could keep him out the game at the King Power Stadium, which will be shown live on BT Sport 1 [kick off 5.30pm].

Lovren has missed 37 of Liverpool’s 119 Premier League games since signing for the Merseyside club from Southampton in 2014, and his best run of consecutive league games under manager Jurgen Klopp is 11.

It means Klopp has managed to field his first-choice defensive duo of Lovren and Matip just 19 times in 43 league games since Matip joined the club from Schalke last year.

"It’s nothing major but it was enough to keep him out two games," Klopp said of Lovren.

"He is not in training so far, so that means he’s a doubt for the weekend. That’s not too cool.

"He's not in training and is a doubt for the weekend.

"Matip and Can also have bits from the last game."

The Reds have gone four games without a win following Tuesday's Carabao Cup third-round defeat to Leicester, but Klopp insists his side can turn things around when the meet Craig Shakespeare's side for a second time in five days on Saturday.

"The difficulty of our situation is that we're playing well but we don't score enough so far," he said.

"We have to create these moments and a lot of things are working really well with our opponents struggling to defend against us.

"But it was too easy for them to then make an impact in the game with one situation. We can all expect that we're better in the situations around the goals."
