Ruben Loftus-Cheek is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines after scans confirmed he ruptured his Achilles tendon during Chelsea's friendly win over New England Revolution.
Loftus-Cheek was introduced from the bench at half-time but he was forced off in the 69th minute when he appeared to twist his foot at the Gillette Stadium in Boston.
He subsequently left the ground on crutches and with his left foot in a protective boot, raising fears over his fitness for the Europa League final in Baku on Wednesday, 29 May.
Scans revealed he had ruptured his Achilles tendon and he underwent surgery to stabilise the injury.
It is unclear how long he will be out of action but the midfielder will miss the Europa League final against Arsenal in Baku on Wednesday, 29 May.
Head coach Maurizio Sarri had expressed concern over the trip to the United States ahead of the final, claiming his players needed to rest after a long season.
