World MotoGP champion Marc Marquez predicts his new 2019 team-mate Jorge Lorenzo "will be fast" and adapt to riding a Honda easier than a Ducati.
Repsol Honda revealed last week that three-time premier class champion Lorenzo would replace out-going Dani Pedrosa next season.
Lorenzo has had a difficult 18 months at Ducati after his switch from Yamaha - often outshone by younger team-mate Andrea Dovizioso - but he was impressive winning the Italian GP at Mugello last week, leading from start to finish.
The Spaniard was used to a smooth riding style after nine years at Yamaha and struggled to adapt when he moved to Ducati.
Asked if Lorenzo would have an easier time switching to Honda, Marquez replied: "The Honda is a bike that is completely different to the Yamaha, but it's closer to the Ducati. I think this will help a little bit, he's coming from Ducati.
"In the end, he's a good rider. A good rider maybe need one race, one day, one year. You never know. But for sure he will arrive and he will be fast and it is important he is a rider with a lot of experience.
"It is also good for the team because he can give a lot of information."
Marquez now heads to his home track for the Catalunya GP, a race that will be shown live on BT Sport 2 on the eir sport pack on Sunday, 17 June [race coverage begins 12.30pm Irish time].
He confirmed that he had been consulted every step of the way in the process that led to Lorenzo's signing for next season.
The 25-year-old, who is going for a fifth MotoGP title in six years, insists he welcomes Lorenzo to the team and believes it can make him a better racer.
He added: "Honda did a really good job because they were speaking with Jorge but it was so quiet.
"Everything was going in a good way. I was there, I already said before the announcement inside the team that the most important thing is to have a strong team-mate because this will be better for the level of the team.
"It's important that it's a rider with a lot of experience who can give a lot of information for the team."
