Ronald Koeman expects Romelu Lukaku to be fit for Everton's Premier League opener against Tottenham on Saturday despite the Belgian needing three stitches in a heel injury.
Chelsea target Lukaku limped out of Everton's friendly 1-0 defeat to Espanyol on Saturday, but Koeman says he expects the forward, who was the club's top scorer last season, to be fit for the Goodison Park clash next weekend.
"Yes, it is his heel," the Dutchman confirmed.
"There was a lot of blood on his ankle and and he had had three stitches. But no, normally he is not a doubt [for next weekend]."
The Toffees have reportedly turned down a £65m bid from Chelsea for the 23-year-old, but are bracing themselves for an increased offer of £75m, with striker Loic Remy and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic likely to be offered as makeweights in the deal.
In other news, Koeman was encouraged by new signing Idrissa Gueye’s debut against Espanyol, despite the £7.2m signing from Aston Villa conceding the penalty that handed the Spanish side the win.
"I thought Idrissa’s performance was positive," he told the club’s official website.
"He took too much of a risk in the action that led to the penalty - but he stole a lot of balls in the midfield, he’s fast and he presses well. I thought his debut was impressive."
