Madden happy "fear factor" is back

Shamrock Rovers face Bohemians on Friday, live on eir sport 2

Shamrock Rovers' defender Simon Madden says teams "fear" playing at the Tallaght Stadium this season.

Rovers host their great Dublin rivals Bohemians on Friday night, live on eir sport 2 at 8pm, at the €11.2m, 6,000 capacity stadium in the foothills of the Dublin mountains.

And Madden says the ground, which was completed and opened in 2009, seemed to inspire visiting teams more than Rovers in the early years.

However, the Hoops have lost just two Airtricity League matches on home ground this season, to Derry City and runaway leaders Cork City.

"Speaking to players off other teams, they used to love coming here," the 29-year-old said.

"It was frustrating and annoying when you heard them say: 'We can't wait to play in Tallaght, good pitch''. They should be fearing it.

"This season they're coming here with a bit of fear, which is what [Rovers' manager] Stephen Bradley wanted to change.

"At the start of the season we said that no team would come here and get an easy three points.

"It's mad to think that players were coming here to enjoy themselves."
