Mahrez reveals Arsenal contact

PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez has confirmed Arsenal tried to sign him during the summer only for Leicester to reject the offer.

Mahrez was heavily linked with Arsenal after helping Leicester to the Premier League title but he put an end to speculation about his future by agreeing a new contract to remain at the King Power Stadium until 2020.

He has now revealed that Arsenal did make contact during the summer but he did not want to rock the boat with the Premier League champions.

"There was contact with Arsenal. But Leicester wanted to keep me and I was pretty expensive. I did not want to create a conflict when the offer came in," Mahrez told Canal Football Club.

"Personally, I think it is a good thing I stayed put.

"It's now up to me to prove myself again."
