Man City complete Stones signing

Manchester City have completed the signing of England international John Stones from Everton in a £47.5m deal.

Stones, who becomes Britain’s most expensive defender, has signed a six-year contract at the Etihad Stadium.

The Barnsley-born defender began his career at his hometown club, and made his professional debut at the age of 17 against Reading in the Championship in March 2012.

He joined Everton in a £2.2m deal in January 2013, with Barnsley inserting a sell-on clause in that contract that will net them between £7m and £9m.

"Now the deal's done I'm looking forward to the next stage in my career," said Stones.

"I've obviously seen what's going on here at the Etihad, it's an ambitious club with a great manager so I can't wait to get stuck in and help achieve the goals.

"I know it will be tough getting a place in this team but I'm determined to become the best player I can be and help us to success."

The 22-year-old has already been included in City's 21-man squad for the Champions League play-off against Steaua Bucharest.

Pep Guardiola's side play the first leg in Romania on 16 August, with the second leg in Manchester on 24 August.
