It is being reported today that Manchester United are not set to renew Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract.
The Swedish striker suffered what is believed to be knee ligament damage during United’s Europa League quart-final victory over Anderlecht, and will face up to a year on the sidelines as he recuperates.
At 35-years-old the injury could mark the end of the striker’s career, with no guarantee he will make a full recovery from what was a horrific injury.
United had the option to extend the striker’s deal for 12 months this summer, but The Mirror is reporting that they will not do so, but will offer the striker assistance in his rehabilitation past the expiry date of his contract.
A source from within the club is quoted as saying: “Zlatan will be given the club’s support throughout his rehabilitation. If that means helping him beyond the final few months of his contract then that will happen.”
