Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho hopes Zlatan Ibrahimovic will stay a second season at Old Trafford.
United signed the of out-of-contract Swedish forward on a one-year deal in July, following his departure from French champions Paris Saint-Germain, with an option for further season.
Mourinho hopes the 116-time capped Sweden international, who has scored six goals in 11 Premier League appearances this season so far, will extend his contract at Old Trafford.
"Zlatan's situation is simple," Mourinho told a news conference ahead of Thursday's Europa League tie against Feyenoord at Old Trafford..
"He has one plus one. We are happy with him. We are going to execute the option of a second season. After that he can do what he wants."
Zlatan, who had been linked with a move to Major League Soccer, says he is happy to stay on for a second season under Mourinho.
"For the moment we have had no discussions. I feel in shape, fresh and good. If I feel like now it will be a second year," he said.
"The second year is automatic, if it continues like this, yes."
Mourinho is also keen to stay longer than the three-year contract he signed at Old Trafford this summer.
"I’m in the beginning of my contract, I’m in the beginning of the process, so let’s go step-by-step. Would I like to stay here for more time than the three years? Yes, I would. I would love it," the Portuguese said.
“But if you ask if I’m waiting for my third year to have good results, no. I’m going to immediately try in my first season to get results.”
