Mannion unsure of O'Carroll return

Rory O'Carroll is unlikely to feature for the Dublin footballers in 2017.

Dublin were dealt a major blow ahead of the 2016 inter-county season when O'Carroll announced his decision to opt out of the panel in order to spend the year travelling.

It was thought he would returned to Ireland at the end of his time in New Zealand, but former team-mate Paul Mannion has revealed that the three-time All-Ireland medallist appears to be in no rush to return any time soon.

“As far as I understand, he won’t be back. He only arrived in New Zealand a few weeks back. He’s looking to get a job there now and he’s got his girlfriend there so he seems happy out," Mannion told The Irish Times.

"I don’t expect him to be back next year. We’d love to have him back and we all wish him well but he’s happy so that’s the most important thing.”
