Marquez takes pole for Austrian MotoGP

Marc Marquez of Honda will start on pole in Sunday's Austrian MotoGP, with the Ducatis of Italian Andrea Dovizioso and Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo, second and third on the grid at the Red Bull Ring.

A lap time of 1:23.241 in the qualifying 2 gave the championship leader the early advantage for the GP, after he had also led the field in final practice 3.

Marquez's time was two thousandths of a second faster than Dovizioso with Lorenzo third, 0.135sec back.

Marquez's title challenger, Valentino Rossi, currently second-place in the riders' standings, failed to qualify for Q2 and will start from 14th on the grid.

The Austrian Moto GP at the Spielberg Red Bull Ring will be shown live on BT Sport 2 on the eir sport pack on Sunday, 12 August. [race starts 1pm].
