Mason stable after surgery

Hull midfielder Ryan Mason is in a stable condition in hospital after undergoing surgery on a fractured skull.

Mason clashed heads with Chelsea defender Gary Cahill 13 minutes into Hull's 2-0 Premier League defeat at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and required over eight minutes of treatment.

He was wearing an oxygen mask as he was stretchered off the pitch before being transferred to St Mary's Hospital in London where he underwent surgery.

"The club can confirm that Ryan Mason sustained a skull fracture in our fixture at Chelsea this afternoon," Hull City said in a statement on Sunday night.

"He was taken to St Mary's Hospital where he has undergone surgery. Ryan is in a stable condition and is expected to remain in hospital for the next few days.

"Everyone at the club would like to express their sincere thanks for the excellent and swift care given to Ryan by both the Accident and Emergency department and Neurosurgery Unit at St Mary's Hospital.

"A further update will be issued tomorrow."

The 25-year-old was injured when he collided with Cahill as they attempted to meet a Pedro Rodriguez cross and the Hull players immediately signalled for help when it became clear that he was in some distress.

Medics from both teams rushed to treat him on the pitch with the help of the paramedics on sight and after a lengthy stoppage he was carried off on a stretcher.

Players took to Twitter to send their best wishes to the midfielder with former Tottenham team-mate Gareth Bale posting: "Get well soon Mase!! Thoughts are with you and your family, stay strong!!! @RyanMason."

The Football Association tweeted: "We'd like to send our best wishes to @RyanMason, who suffered a skull fracture while playing for @HullCity today."

Former club Tottenham, posted: "Everyone at the Club sends their best wishes to @RyanMason for a full and speedy recovery. Get well soon, Ryan."
