Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane is confident James McCarthy will be fit to face Georgia on Thursday but admits they will not take any undue risks with the players.
McCarthy was included in the Ireland squad for this week's double-header despite not playing for Everton for six weeks because of a groin problem.
He underwent surgery last month to treat the problem and looks to be on course to feature for Ireland after coming through training on Monday and Tuesday.
Everton manager Ronald Koeman has expressed his concern about McCarthy's inclusion in the Ireland squad but Keane has assured the Dutchman that they will not take any risks with the midfielder's fitness.
"To be fair, since we’ve come on board we've always been totally up front and forward with the clubs. We obviously respect that and will continue to.
"I don't think we've ever yet put a player in where we thought we were taking a massive risk with him and almost going against the club's wishes. We take that on board, of course we do.
"James did a bit on Monday, we had a bit of a game on Tuesday and he's come through it, no reaction. I'd like to think he'd be available for Thursday."
