McClaren to take training

Steve McClaren will take Newcastle training on Tuesday amid growing speculation that he could be heading for the exit door.

McClaren's position is in doubt following Saturday's 3-1 home defeat to Bournemouth, a result that left Newcastle in the relegation zone with 24 points.

The Magpies have won just seven games in all competitions this season and fans have called on the club's board to sack McClaren and bring in a manager capable of turning their fortunes around in the final ten games of the campaign.

The board met on Monday to discuss McClaren's position but a decision over his future has yet to be made and he arrived at training as planned on Tuesday.

There were reports that his car was spotted leaving the training ground after an hour but McClaren is thought to have remained with the players.
