McGregor vacates featherweight title
UFC officials have confirmed Conor McGregor has relinquished his featherweight title and one-time beaten opponent of the Dubliner, Jose Aldo, now holds the belt.
McGregor has yet to comment on the situation, but will have his say after he defeated the Brazilian in 13-seconds, in what was one of the Irishman’s most iconic wins to date.
The lightweight champion has never defended his featherweight title, instead opting to move up two weights to fight UFC veteran Nate Diaz before moving back down to 155 to defeat Eddie Alvarez.
World lightweight champion Conor McGregor has vacated his featherweight title and opted to keep the 155-pound title he won by defeating Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 on 12 November.
"Interim featherweight titleholder Jose Aldo has now been elevated to undisputed champion, and following these developments, the interim UFC featherweight title will be on the line on Saturday 10 December, as Max Holloway and Anthony Pettis battle for championship gold in the new main event of UFC 206." An official UFC statement read.
"The winner of the five-round bout, which will be held at Air Canada Centre in Toronto, will face Aldo in 2017 for the unified belt."
