McIlroy paired with Watson and Matsuyama


2014 champion Rory McIlroy has been paired with Bubba Watson and Hideki Matsuyama for the first two rounds of the Open Championship at Royal Troon.

McIlroy missed last year's tournament due to an ankle injury and will get his tournament underway at 9.36am, just 11 minutes after world number Jason Day, Masters champion Danny Willett and Rickie Fowler begin their first round.

The honour of hitting the first tee shot at 6.35am falls to Colin Montgomerie and he will be joined for the first two rounds by s Luke Donald and Marc Leishman, while just over an hour later Ryder Cup captain will get his bid for a second Claret Jug underway in the company of Jim Furyk and Thorbjorn Olesen.

Ireland's Shane Lowry will play alongside Jordan Spieth and Justin Rose on Thursday and Friday with the three-ball teeing off at 9.03am.

Reigning US Open champion Dustin Johnson is one of the afternoon starters at 2.04pm and he will be joined on the first tee by Martin Kaymer and Russell Knox.

Zach Johnson begins the defence of his title at 2.15pm and he features in an all-star three-ball alongside Adam Scott and Henrik Stenson.
