McIlroy to play through pain of rib injury

Rory McIlroy will feature in next week’s Northern Trust Open, despite his ongoing rib injury.

McIlroy finished 22nd at the USA PGA Championship amid fears he would sit out the rest of the season as a result of the injury. However, after meeting with his fitness advisor Steve McGregor in Belfast, McIlroy has decided to play through the pain as he looks to defend his FedEx Cup title.

Similar to 2016, McIlroy has not won a tour event this season ahead of the four tournament FedEx play-off qualificaiton system at the Northern Trust Open, Dell Technologies Championship, BMW Championship and Tour Championship.
