Meath appoint McEntee

Meath have appointed Andy McEntee as their new football manager.

The two-time All-Ireland winner, who led Ballyboden to the All-Ireland club title this year, will serve a three-year team as Royal County manager.

A meeting of the Meath county board in Seneschalstown on Monday night ratified the appointment of the Nobber native, who succeeds Mick O'Dowd.

McEntee, who becomes Meath's sixth manager in 10 years, will work alongside selectors Finian Murtagh, Donal Curtis and his brother Gerry McEntee.

"This is the ultimate management job in Meath and I'm a Meath man, this is what I enjoy doing so it has been an ambition of mine, I'm not breaking any secrets by admitting that. I'm looking forward to the challenge," McEntee told the Meath Chronicle.

O'Dowd stepped down as Meath boss after the 1-14 to 1-11 defeat to Derry in the All-Ireland Round 2A football qualifier tie at Owenbeg.
