Mings suffers setback

Bournemouth defender Tyrone Mings faces a battle to return to fitness in time for the start of the 2016-17 season after suffering a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

Mings has not featured for Bournemouth since tearing anterior and medial ligaments in his knee against Leicester on the opening day of the season and has since undergone further surgery which is likely to impact on his pre-season campaign.

While he could return for pre-season, the defender admits he is unlikely to be ready for the start of the new season.

"I've had a little setback and had another operation on my medial ligament just to remove some of the pins that were rubbing on it," Mings said.

"It probably sets me back but I don't want to put a time-frame on it. Probably sets me back more than what I was hoping but it's not as bad mentally as I was initially.

"Making my debut, coming off after six minutes and being out for a year was a lot to take in at the time, but now I am into the rehab and it's a lot easier to take.

"I'll probably miss the first stages of pre-season, and if I am involved in pre-season it will probably be modified - I don't think I'll be joining in fully because of what has happened now.

"I'll be looking to get back as early as possible, and as early into the season as possible, and hopefully be fighting fit."
