Tiger Woods enjoyed a mixed round as he made his long-awaited comeback from injury at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas.
The 14-time major winner looked in superb form as he picked up four birdies in his opening eight holes to give him a share of the lead of his own tournament but his time at the top of the leaderboard was not to last.
He dropped his first shot of the day at the par-five ninth and he found himself two-under for the tournament after a second bogey on the 11th.
After three pars he recovered one of his dropped shots at the 15th to move back to three-under but two double-bogeys in his final three holes meant he had to settle for a one-over 73.
Despite sitting nine shots off the lead, Woods was happy to finally get a competitive round of golf under his belt.
"If you think about it I hit the ball in three bushes and a water ball today, so it could have been something really good," Woods told Sky Sports after his first competitive round in over 15 months.
"I got off to a nice solid start but then made a few mistakes. I didn't play the par five well in the middle of the round.
"I had some awkward shots. If you drive great you can take advantage of this golf course, but if you don't you can end up in bushes or rocks and go sideways.
"But all in all I feel good and I am looking forward to another three days."
JB Holmes leads the way on eight-under after a superb opening 64.
Having dropped a shot at his very first hole, Holmes recovered with seven birdies and an eagle to end the day with a one-shot lead over Hideki Matsuyama with Dustin Johnson a further stroke back.
Henrik Stenson carded a five-under 67 while Matt Kuchar and Louis Oosthuizen are three shots off the lead on five-under.
