Monaghan boss O'Rourke to stay on

Malachy O'Rourke will stay on as Monaghan football boss for at least another year, the Farney County has confirmed.

A "disappointed and deflated" O'Rourke considered resigning following Monaghan's shock qualifier defeat to Longford in Clones on 9 July, but after a month of consideration, the two-time Ulster-winning manager has decided to stay on for a fifth season.

In O'Rourke's four years in charge, Monaghan have won the Division 2 and 3 Leagues, and reached the Division 1 semi-final in 2015, as well as winning the Ulster titles in 2013 and 2015.

"Following a period of reflection after Monaghan’s early exit from the championship this year, Malachy O’ Rourke has confirmed that he will continue as Monaghan GAA senior men’s manager for a fifth successive season," a Monaghan GAA statement read.
