Mourinho declines Utd fan invite

Jose Mourinho has turned down an invitation to meet with a Manchester United fans group after recent critical comments about them.

The Portuguese has bizarrely decided to take aim at the Old Trafford support in recent weeks, accusing them of being fickle in their treatment of Romelu Lukaku.

The former Chelsea boss also made reference to some supporter's booing of him when withdrawing Marcus Rashford in the game against Spurs, saying in the following games programme notes "I hope that you enjoy the game more than some of you did against Tottenham.”

Criticism of Utd's negative playing style in the grinding victory over Spurs and the deathly dull 0-0 draw with Liverpool has clearly irked Mourinho but after the Manchester United Supporters' Trust (MUST) offered to meet with him to discuss his concerns, the invite was turned down.

“I cannot meet a quarter of the planet," Mourinho said.

“I think a quarter of the planet is Manchester United red. I cannot meet them."

Mourinho also discussed his relationship with Chelsea's fans as he gets ready to take Utd to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

“That’s [Chelsea fans booing him at Stamford Brudge] not a problem at all,” he said. “I walk in the street and outside the football heat I get so many Chelsea fans, especially in the area where I live, and I didn’t have one single one that wasn’t nice.

“What happened in the football stadium is a different thing. When I go to Stamford Bridge, I am the manager of their opponent so I accept every possible reaction with the utmost respect.”
