Mourinho fears for referee Anthony Taylor

Jose Mourinho believes that referee Anthony Taylor’s performance might be affected when his side face Liverpool.

The former Chelsea boss admitted that the furore surrounding the Manchester-based official may prove pivotal in Monday night’s crunch clash.

Former head of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited body, Keith Hackett, criticised the decision and fears the focus on Taylor will be "intolerable" should he make a mistake.

Mourinho suggested that the fact Taylor’s appointment is a talking-point makes his job tougher when the two old foes meet in their first encounter of the season.

"I don’t want to say anything about it," Mourinho said.

"I have my view but I understood and I learned, if you want to call it, a lesson by being so many times punished by some words."

"I think Mr Taylor is a very good referee but I think somebody with intention is putting such a pressure on him that I feel that it will be difficult for him to have a very good performance."
