Jose Mourinho had confirmed that Anthony Martial was able for selection for Saturday's trip to Stoke but he was simply not selected.
The Frenchman's troubled season under the new manager at Manchester United continued as he did not even make the substitute's bench for the 1-1 draw with the Potters.
The attacker started last weekend's 1-1 home draw with Liverpool and impressed in patches but not enough to make the squad for the clash with Stoke City.
When asked about Marcos Rojo and Martial's absence after the game, Mourinho replied: “He [Rojo] was not feeling well [so was out because of that]. Martial was not selected.”
Reports in France on Sunday morning suggest Martial was unhappy with again being dropped and in particular on this occasion because he was given no explanation for his non-selection.
Utd needed a free-kick from an otherwise below-par Wayne Rooney deep in injury-time to snatch a point from the game against Stoke with Martial's replacement Juan Mata, being withdrawn in the second half after producing a poor performance.
