Mourinho: Mkhitaryan injury not serious

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has insisted Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s injury is not serious following his side’s 1-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford.

It was the 27-year-old who finished smartly in the 29th minute - for his first Premier League goal – when Ander Herrera found the Armenian with a well-timed ball after Harry Kane was dispossessed in the middle of the park.

Despite the man-of-the-match performance, Mkhitaryan’s game ended on a sour note after he was stretchered off following a collision with Spurs’ Danny Rose, in what looked a serious problem the former Borussia Dortmund man.

"We don't think it's a serious injury. We don't think maybe Henrikh can play for a week. I was afraid it was serious but looks like it's not." Mourinho told the BBC.

"Maximum a couple of weeks. It doesn't look like something that is very dangerous or difficult. He brings everything I want an attacker to play. Maybe one week out and it is better to be fresh for Boxing Day."

The former Chelsea boss complemented the winger on how he reacted after been left out of the team for a number of games, much to the dismay of the United faithful.

"Not just the way he's creating but his defensive participation in the team. He crossed the line to be a better player. He crossed the line mentally, that others have to cross." Said Mourinho.

"I want more from some of my attacking players. The two moments of recovering the ball are crucial moments. Mkhitaryan was superb on that."

Manchester United now sit 6th in the Premier League, three points off top-four rivals Spurs, and will look to close the gap when they travel to Alan Pardew’s Crystal Palace on the 14th of December.
