Mourinho's future uncertain

Jose Mourinho's future at Chelsea is uncertain in the wake of the club's poor first half of the season.

The Blues have suffered nine defeats in their opening 16 Premier League games to sit 16th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone.

Mourinho received the backing of owner Roman Abramovich in October but results have barely improved since then and there were reports that an emergency board meeting had been called to discuss his future.

It is unclear whether the board meeting will table place but it has been claimed club executives have discussed the manager's position in the wake of Monday's 2-1 loss to Leicester.

Mourinho signed a new four-year deal win the summer and as a result he would be in line for a hefty payout were the club to decide to bring in a new manager.

Chelsea host Sunderland on Saturday in the knowledge that they could be in the bottom three by Christmas if results go against them.
