Mourinho tight-lipped after Man Utd win

Jose Mourinho spent only seven seconds with his post-match interviewer after his Manchester United side booked their place in the EFL Cup final at Wembley next month.

Hull City beat Utd 2-1 on the night but lost out 3-2 on aggregate which means the latter will take on Southampton, conquerors of Liverpool, in the decider.

The Tigers opened the scoring courtesy of a Tom Huddlestone penalty after referee Jon Moss had spotted a pull by Marcos Rojo on Harry Maguire.

Paul Pogba's 66th minute equaliser restored the visitors' two-goal advantage before Oumar Niasse's late strike set up a tight finish.

Utd may have had a spot-kick of their own earlier on when Chris Smalling went down under pressure from Huddlestone but Moss waved play on and it seems this decision - and the award for Rojo's challenge - left Mourinho fearing he would say something he regretted in his interview with Sky.

"I just want to say congratulations to my players," he said. "It was a difficult road to be in the final and we are in the final.

"I don't want to say anything else. It is enough, I am calm, I behaved on the bench, no sending off, no punishment so no more words."

Michael Carrick meanwhile was disappointed at the loss - their first in 18 games - despite progressing to the final.

"I wouldn't say we were relieved, we are disappointed in the way we played and losing the game," he said. "We wanted to keep our run going and we didn't play well at all. Of course we are delighted to reach the final but it's a strange feeling.

"We expected a tough game, they had to come at us, and we just didn't play well. We don't like losing and we've lost but we are in the final.

"You don't get many chances to win a trophy so we have to grab that chance."
