Jose Mourinho feels he is not shown the same respect as Arsene Wenger despite only winning the Premier League title '18 months ago...not 18 years ago'.
Mourinho and Wenger have enjoyed a fiery relationship over the years, dating back to the Portuguese's time at Chelsea, and they will renew rivalry on Saturday when Arsenal travel to Old Trafford to face Manchester United.
Wenger has never beaten a team managed by Mourinho in the Premier League and is without a title since 2004, while Mourinho lifted the crown with Chelsea in 2015.
The United boss believes both of them deserved recognition for their success in England but he has questioned why he is not afforded the same respect as the Frenchman.
“Tomorrow is the match between the two managers with the best records in the Premier League. Sir Alex Ferguson isn’t there any more and tomorrow I think we are speaking about six or seven Premier League titles [between us]" he told reporters at his pre-match press conference.
“I have three, I think. Mr Wenger has three or four - I don’t know. Does that mean we should be respected even in periods where our results are not the best? I think Mr Wenger has that respect from all of you. I don’t think I have especially because my last Premier League title was 18 months ago. It was not 18 years ago.
“So I don’t think I get respect but it’s not because of that that is peak better or not so good. I just follow my way because I want to win my ninth championship and my fourth Premier league.”
Mourinho has endured a difficult start to his reign at Old Trafford but he insists he is where he wants to be and is determined to win a fourth Premier League title with United.
"I am in the club where I want to me. That is so simple as that. When I was sacked at Chelsea I was not in trouble," he said.
"I had lots of offers. I don't speak about them. I could be working one week after in some of the biggest clubs in Europe. I waited for this chance.
"I was champion in four different clubs. I want to be champion in every club I have worked. I want to do that at Manchester United."
