Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has warned his players that their position in the Premier League's top four is not assured after their 1-0 home defeat to West Brom on Sunday.
The defeat at Old Trafford meant that their cross-city rivals Manchester City were crowned Premier League champions as a result of the loss, as the league's bottom side claimed only their fourth win of the season against a lifeless United.
Next up for Mourinho's men is a trip to Bournemouth midweek as they seek to bounce back to winning ways and regain pace as they look to hold onto second place in the Premier League from Liverpool, who are just a point behind in third. There is also the important matter of their FA Cup semi-final clash with Tottenham on Saturday, both games are live on the eir Sport pack, with Mourinho wanting to go into that second tie with a W in their last-match-played column.
"We lost three points that could give us great stability for the second position," he said. "We still have the fourth position to fight for because Chelsea won yesterday [Saturday] and we lost, so we still have to fight for the top four.
"[It was] too high [confidence among the players] because, when you win a match that gives you nothing [against Man City in their previous match], just gives you three points, but you react in a way that it looks like you won something really important you pay the price."
